CASE SUMMARY: Injured worker with head trauma commits suicide after insurance company failed to schedule an appointment for his neuropsychological testing and treatment.

A truck driver sustained a head injury when his tractor-trailer rolled over after sliding off an overpass on I-70 in Western Indiana (Vigo County) near Terre Haute. The client’s neurologist indicated his symptoms warranted a referral to another specialist for neuropsychological testing, but the insurance company did not authorize it. The client’s symptoms worsened, and he later committed suicide. A bad faith filing, and contentious litigation, resulted in a substantial settlement for his wife and children.
